BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

Wormies, I want to draw your attention to one of the latest blogs to hit my Blog List.

Shotgun Honey.

I'm really very excited about this one because of my new found love of the suspense/crime genre. It's operated by good friend Kent Gowran and promises to publish hard hitting suspense/crime/noir flash fiction.

Over the years that I've known Kent (strictly through internet message boards, sadly) he's revealed himself as someone with a long barreled knowledge of the crime/noir genre. And hey, he's from Chicago, what more do you need to know?

Kent's got the first story posted and it's a good one. It's called TWO-PHONES by Dan O'Shea, a crime writer that also hails from the Windy City.

Archie is back! Well, Julius Katz is too, but lets face it, it's Archie that steals the show.

If you know what I'm talking about you have probably already read Dave Zeltserman's terrific Julius Katz Mysteries.

I recently discovered Dave thanks to another friend from the message boards who's knowledge of the suspense genre is hard to match. He put me on to Dave's The Caretaker of Lorne Field: A Novel and if you have been following this blog for any length of time you know what I thought about that one!

Ever since, I've been gobbling up Dave's back list like a starving man at an all you can eat buffet and one of the tastiest treats are Dave's Julius Katz stories. The writing is terrific and the stories are great!

Holy crap! I still haven't gotten to it have I?

Coming June 1st, 2011 is JULIUS KATZ AND ARCHIE, a full length novel featuring...you guessed it! I seriously can't wait, and if I have any powers of premonition New York publishing houses are going to be kicking themselves for not believing in Julius Katz and Archie.

I recently enjoyed and reviewed the TOP SUSPENSE GROUP's anthology, Top Suspense: 13 Classic Stories by 12 Masters of the Genre (see my review here).

One of my favorite pieces in the collection was a round robin story by the original six members of TSG, called THE CHASE. It had everything you want in a crime suspense ripper. Guns, babes, car chases and killers. I loved it.

Well, TSG are at it again with a sequel to that very good story being published via their blog.

It's cal LAUREN'S RUN and this time it's being penned by the newest six members of the group.

I can't wait to see where this one goes!

Before I call it quits I want to direct you to a couple of books I have in my tbr pile, by a couple of primo gentlemen.

The first is called Liquid Fear: A Mystery Thriller by Scott Nicholson. Here is the blurb:

LIQUID FEAR: A Mystery Thriller

When Roland Doyle wakes up with a dead woman in his motel room, the only clue is a mysterious vial of pills bearing the label “Take one every 4 hrs or else.”

Ten years before, six people were involved in a secret pharmaceutical trial that left one of them dead and five unable to remember what happened. Now the experiment is continuing, as Dr. Sebastian Briggs concludes his research into fear response and post-traumatic stress disorder. He’s backed by a major drug company and an ambitious U.S. Senator, but he also has a personal stake in the outcome.

Only by taking the mysterious pills can the survivors stave off the creeping phobias, sexual impulses, and inflicted madness that threaten to consume them. But the pills have an unexpected side effect—the survivors start remembering the terrible acts they perpetrated a decade ago. They are lured back to the Monkey House, the remote facility where the original trials took place, and Briggs has prepared it for their return.

Now they are trapped, they each have only one pill left, and cracks are forming in their civilized veneer.

After the pills are gone, there’s only one option. “Or else.”

Next is The Kult by Shaun Jeffrey. Here is the blurb:

People are predictable. That’s what makes them easy to kill.

Detective Chief Inspector Prosper Snow is in charge of an investigation into a serial killer called The Oracle who turns his victims into macabre works of art. But Prosper harbours a dark secret of his own. He and his old school friends were members of a group called The Kult who made a pact to dish out their own form of vengeance on bullies. Now a member of the group puts their friendship to the test when he makes a far darker request: that they murder someone that raped his wife.

To get away with murder, the friends decide to blame it on The Oracle, but events take a chilling turn when the instigator turns up dead, his body fashioned into a disturbing work of art. Now, one by one, the members of The Kult are being hunted down.

Just when Prosper thinks things can’t get any worse, his wife is kidnapped and he knows that if he goes to his colleagues for help, he risks his dark deeds being unearthed. If he doesn't, he risks losing all that he holds dear.

I've read some great things about both these selections and just as soon as I find the time I'll be reading and reviewing them here on the blog. Until then maybe give them a shot and let me know what you think.
